Summer Water Use Efficiency
Summer

Did you know that more than half of residential water use is for landscape irrigation? Most of that irrigation water use comes during the summer months when plant water needs are at their highest. Here are some tips to help you be water efficient during the hot summer months:
· Water in early morning or late evening to reduce evaporation and the impact of wind interference on sprinkler systems.
· Consider installing a water-efficient drip irrigation system for trees, shrubs, and flowers to get water to plant roots more efficiently.
· Turn on your irrigation system to check for leaks, over-spray, water pressure issues, or broken irrigation components.
· Water trees a few days ahead of extreme heat. Click here for information on tree care resources.
· Make sure you are watering right. Customize your watering schedule to the weather and your plants’ watering needs using the Landscape Water Calculator.
